25 March 2021
The British Baseball Federation (BBF), is dedicated to making our sport enjoyable and safe for children. On the 1st of April 2021 (handover date), the BBF as the NGB of our sport, takes over safeguarding from BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK). The BBF has conducted a thematic review, consultation with third party organisations (NSPCC, Disclosure and Barring Service, consultants, etc.) of the policies, procedures, guidelines, best practices and templates to assist everyone in our sport to safeguard children.
In advance of the 1st April, we have been beta testing our safeguarding processes, DBS checks, etc., to assess and take any corrective action to make the process and user experience more effective.
All affiliated members of the BBF must adhere to our safeguarding policies, procedures and processes as part of their membership terms and insurance coverage. We expect everyone to review and understand our safeguarding policies and procedures and adequately prepare for the 1st April handover date.
What you can expect from the BBF (but not limited to) for safeguarding:
- A BBF national safeguarding campaign
- DBS checks co-ordination
- Designated Welfare Officer recruiting insights
- Insurance coverage for affiliated clubs which adhere to our policies and procedures
- Network of safeguarding officers
- Policies, procedures, guidelines and best practices
- Registration and verification of safeguarding officers
- Videos with insights
Our draft safeguarding policies and procedures document sets out what we consider, so our affiliated members and participants can ensure they meet our expectations when they include children in their clubs or organisations. Safeguarding risks and requirements are ever changing, expect our policies and procedures to continually be updated.
