Drew Spencer | U23 NATIONAL TEAM COACH

Andrew “Drew” Spencer grew up in Glendale, California and played High School baseball at Herbert Hoover HS where he was a Left-Handed pitcher and Center Fielder who played varsity Baseball for 3 years, finishing his senior year with a .426 BA and helping to lead his team to a Pacific League Championship.

He spent his college years at Dartmouth College, where he played from 1994-1997. Originally recruited as a pitcher, Drew transitioned to the outfield after sustaining a shoulder injury prior to arriving in Hanover. He was a 4-time All-Ivy League selection and, at the time of his graduation, was the career record holder in 11 offensive categories. Drew also played for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 1994 and 1995. It was at Eldredge Field in Orleans, MA that Drew got his first taste of coaching, working with 5 to 8 year olds at the club’s Summer Camp.

Drew’s coaching career began in earnest in 2008 in London, UK at LondonSports, the UK’s largest youth baseball club. Over six seasons at LondonSports, Drew coached at all levels and helped to establish the club’s first Travel Team programme. He also ran the club’s Minors League for 4 years, organising rosters, schedules and all aspects of administration for an 8-team league with over 120 players.

Prior to the 2016 season, Drew and his son Malakai joined the London Mets Baseball & Softball Club. Drew continued to coach at the youth level, but also began to establish himself as an adult coach, taking a role as Assistant Coach with the London Mammoths, the Mets’ AAA affiliate.

In 2017, Drew established the London Meteorites, another AAA team made up of prospects from the Mets youth system. He also led the club’s Juniors All-Star team to a 3rd place finish in the Europe/Africa Regional Little League Championship Tournament, the club’s 2nd highest finish in this tournament. At the youth level, Drew’s teams have won 5 British National Championships. Drew was also nominated and selected as a finalist for the British Youth Baseball Coach of the Year.

In 2018, Drew became the Manager of the Mets’ National Baseball League team, leading them to a 20-4 record en route to their 2nd consecutive league title and the club’s 5th overall National Championship (a British record).
