Congratulations Long Eaton Storm, the 2019 Single-A National Champions

Long Eaton Storm

The Single-A Finals was played at Farnham Park, between the defending National Champion, Long Eaton Storm vs Birmingham Outlaws. 

Both teams came in after entering the playoffs for Single-A, after finishing in the top groups for their respective divisions. 

The Birmingham Outlaws opened their quarter-final games on the 25th August against the London Musketeers. The Outlaws eventually winning and proceeding to the Semi-Finals. The Outlaws took on the South Coast Pirates on the 7th September. After a four hour nine-inning game of hitting power on both sides, the Outlaws won and advanced to the Finals. 

Long Eaton road to the Finals, started against the Kent Buccaneers on the 25th August. Out hitting the Bucs, the Outlaws advanced to the Semi-Finals. 

In the Semi-Finals, the Storm took on the Leicester Blue Sox. After a hitting barrage, the Storm advanced to the Finals. 

The Finals had the Birmingham Outlaws vs the Long Eaton Storm. 

The Finals was played on a partially sunny day at Farnham Park. The Outlaws came in determined to unseat the defending Champions Long Eaton Storm. The Outlaws scored first in the top of the second, e.g., taking the lead two-nil against the Storm. The inning ended with the Outlaws up two to nil over the Storm. 

The Storm ended the second by putting one run on the board, finishing the second the Outlaws two and the Storm one. The Storm added another run in the bottom of the third inning to end the inning all tied (2 to 2). 

Birmingham added to their score by getting two runs in the top of the fourth and holding the Storm at the end of four. The score at the end of four innings, the Outlaws four and the Storm two.

However, Birmingham could not hold down the Storm bats. The Storm broke the game wide open in the fifth with a series of hits to score five runs. So, the score was now the Outlaws four and the Storm seven after five innings. 

At this point, the Storm starting pitcher, sinkerballer Charlie Mayhew, took command by shutting out the Outlaws in the fifth until the end of the game. Charlie eventually was the winning pitcher and earned the Finals MVP. 

The Storm won the nine-inning game by a score of 11 to 4 over the Birmingham Outlaws, to defend their National Championship. 

A spokesperson for the BBF said, " A great day, and an excellent performance by the Storm. We need to praise the Outlaws who showed good sportsmanship and a lot of determination to get to the Finals. 

A great pitching performance by MVP Charlie Mayhew, who mixed his pitches well and came up big after the fifth inning. The Storm is a great team, and possible dynasty awaits. We are proud of a great year of Single-A Baseball, and the Finals was a culmination of the best of the teams."
