Undefeated in the regular and postseason

10 Sept 2019

Double-A National Finals | Bristol Badgers v Bournemouth Bears

The Double-A National Championship was held at Farnham Park, to determine the Champion.

Bristol was coming into the contest after a great play in the postseason, whereby they won over the Sidewinders and London Marauders.

On the other side, the Bournemouth Bears were coming into the game the number one seed after having a great regular season atop of the standings.

Both teams were highly supported in person at Farnham Park and on social media.  Bristol even brought its trusted mascot the badger.

The game was a slugfest from the beginning with the Bears (home team), earning a run at the bottom of the first. Bristol added runs in the second (two runs), third (three runs), fourth (one run), fifth (two runs), sixth (one run), and seventh (three runs) innings. However, the Bears tipped the balance their way by scoring in the first (one run), third (two runs) and exploding in the fifth (seven runs), seventh (six runs) and adding one run in the eight.

We witnessed a combined 29 runs in the Finals between both teams on 26 hits.

While Bristol sent their workhorses on the mound Luke Claffin and Delvdyas Trinkunas, the Bournemouth Bears countered with Shannon Hall and Jose Lopez. However, in the end, the Bears held on to win the Finals and be crowned the National Double-A Champions with a 17 to 12 win over the Badgers.

A spokesperson for the BBF said, "It was a great day and great game by two well-run organisations. Both clubs fans were supportive of their teams which is great to see both at the park and on social media. The mentioned was a tribute to both sides as they have extended their reach on social media.

Bristol always adds something special to a game both on and off the field. By bringing their mascot (the badger), it received a lot of accolades on social media. However, the team deserves a lot of credit. The Badgers are a class act on the field and off. While the Badgers came up short, they never gave up.

Congratulations to the Bournemouth Bears. The Bears indeed showed their dominance which carried over from the regular season. A great team defensively and offensively. The Bears were undefeated in the regular and postseason, which is an incredible feat considering the competition in Double-A. This Bears team has all the markings of greatness.

Further it was great to have the Bears fan base in attendance with drums and music.  The Double-A Finals was the liveliest in years and fun for everyone in attendance. We are grateful to have both teams a part of the BBF, and look forward to next year."

Shannon Hall (starting pitcher) is the Finals MVP.
