BBF COVID-19 Update

28/06/20 | BBF

Sun 28 Jun 2020

We continue to be lead by the government Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic guidelines. In the recent UK government announcement, we have learned we cannot start our baseball leagues and games (fixtures) until further notice. However, government guidelines do provide for certain training activities to resume under strict safety and social distancing guidelines. Please refer to the government guidelines linkand our COVID-19 report link as to what is allowed and expected.

We are provisionally now planning for baseball to re-start on the 1st August, but this is subject to change based on government guidance. The start of our baseball fixtures has now been moved to the 1st of August, subject to change. With a limited number of days available to play leagues or fixtures from August to September, we realise we must also account for other risks, e.g., weather, field availability, etc.

The pandemic challenges (financial and non-financial) our stakeholder's face and our sport, have been stressful to manage. Understanding the challenges of our member clubs, and the limited number of days available to play fixtures, we know we must consider our responsibilities and leadership. Leading up to this pandemic, the BBF had implemented several Business Continuity Plan (financial and non-financial) measures to prepare for a crisis. Our approach has been forward-looking and systematic to remain agile and resilient under several possible risks. While we await government approval for the return of baseball fixtures, we have decided to take a "swing at the bottom of the ninth" under the circumstances and assuming we can start fixtures in August. For example:

  1. All BBF membership fees paid to play in our leagues will be 100% returned to our members over the next few weeks.
  2. Also, we await word from our insurers, i.e., any credit returned will also be passed through to our members.
  3. If we get the go-ahead from the government, we will deliver a baseball experience (even if shortened) to our baseball community. That is, in combination with the funds saved through our Business Continuity Plan and connections to secure private donations, we are glad to announce a series of baseball tournaments.
